It doesn't objectify and de-humanise the main character Christine as quickly and demonstratively as is the case in many of his other books. So there's more dialogue and interaction between the characters. But the storyline is essentially the formula of the main character getting encased in increasingly more inescapable bondage whilst sinking deeper into a controlled and disciplined way of life.
And all the bondage g I would say compared to J. And all the bondage gizmos are all described in almost engineer-like detail, which is kind of what the author likes doing. On one hand it's interesting to read, because nothing is left to the imagination - it's all written and extensively covered.
On the other hand it makes the story drag because short events end up taking several pages which is annoying. I kind of like the focus on the extreme bondage and discipline. But at the same time there's an absense of covering the human emotion in more detail.
The main character sort of just gets on with it, because she has to, and the story doesn't really dwelve at anything, not even moments that would otherwise be important to learning about the characters. It just moves on.
So the characters are a bit flat, whilst the bondage descriptions are very detailed. The ending isn't very conclusive. It's like a ladder where you're half-way up and then it ends and if you want the other half then read the second book.
